What do wedding professionals do when the season dies down? Play dress up, of course. Photographer Laine Bowen paired with a team that included local makeup artists Melissa Korn and Elisabeth Prehn, hair stylists Jaclyn Beith and Mari Dwyer, and wardrobe stylist Anna Wong for a stunning editorial shoot
We asked Korn and Beith to share their expert advice on four of the looks below. Check out their tips and tricks for each big-day bridal style.
THE GLAMOUROUS BRIDE
Makeup: “Smokey eyes in hues of plum and brown followed by major lashes draw attention to those peepers while keeping it bridal. Skip black shadow in favor of chocolate tones, and carefully blend to keep a cloud-like shape. Try Nars Duo Eyeshadow in Brousse.
Up the glamour quota with contouring and highlighting made simple with Kevyn Aucoin Candlight and Sculpting Cream Duo—blend the deeper color under the cheekbones for depth, apply the highlight shade above the cheekbones and on the temples. A touch of cream blush on the apples of the cheeks and a dab on the lips completes the look. Try Nars Multiple Stick in Orgasm.”—Korn
Hair: “These beautiful waves were created using a one-inch curling iron or wand, then brushed out to give it a lived-in look. For added sparkle, tie a sheer glitter headpiece around the ‘do. We sprayed Oribe’s Dry Texturizing Spray at the roots to add volume and finished it off with Seven Salon’s Encore medium-hold hair spray for a look the lasts all day.”—Beith
THE FRESH AND MODERN BRIDE
Makeup: “Stick to lightweight complexion products for radiant skin. Do, however, remember to avoid tinted moisturizers, sunscreen is your number-one enemy in flash photography. Try Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation.
For perfectly bold Lips that last, exfoliate with Fresh Sugar Lip Polish, then apply a lightweight lip moisturizer and blot. A lip primer like Bite Beauty’s Line and Define Lip Primerfollowed by your favorite lip shade will keep touchups minimal. Try Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils.”—Korn
Hair: “This is a great look for brides who love built-in movement. The elegant updo is voluminous but possess a sophisticated whimsy—perfect for those who want some height and interest. To create the look, we used Soft Lacquer heat styling spray by Oribe, and Fini hair spray by Seven.”—Beith
THE CLASSIC BRIDE
Makeup: “Focus on the eyes with a sweep of neutral shadow on the lids, and trace the lashline using a black liquid liner with a flick at the corners to create a classic winged look. Follow with (waterproof!) mascara. Try By Terry Ligne Blackstar Liquid Eyeliner.
Keep your lips and cheeks pretty in soft pink tones. Try BobbiBrown Lip Gloss in Petal and Chanel Joues Contraste powder blush in Pink Explosion.”—Korn
Hair: “Perfect for the bride who wants a traditional look with a modern spin: sheer, polished, and no-fuss. We set this elegant ‘do with Forte strong-hold hair spray by Seven Salon.”—Beith
THE BOHO CHIC BRIDE
Makeup: “Natural cosmetic products embrace this boho bride’s earthy nature while enhancing her outer beauty. For softly stained lips and rosy cheeks, try the coconut based two-in-one RMS Beauty Lip2cheek in Sublime.
For bright and defined eyes, try Jane Iredale’s vegan and gluten-free Smoke and Mirrors Smoky Eye Kit. Dampen the deepest shade with water to create a sultry liner using anUrban Decay Good Karma Liner Brush. For the perfect finishing touch, Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara amps of the volume of lashes while conditioning for long-lasting shine.”-Korn
Hair: “For those free spirits who like to go a bit against the grain, this look is for you! Set the hair with a one-inch curling iron or wand, then run your hands through it to break up the texture. I finished it off with Seven Salon’s Dry Shampoo on the roots to add volume and texture.”-Beith
