Blackbird Ballard may have closed, but the city certainly isn’t forgetting its menfolk. Between Totokaelo Man, Madrona accessories-store Hammer and Awl, last year’s Indochino suiting popup, and an impending men’s department at Zara, Seattle guys have more wardrobe options than ever.
We’ve got two more for you: Esquire‘s collaboration with Men’s Wearhouse and just-opened downtown boutique Suitsupply.
It might be easy to dismiss a big-box suit store known for its baritone slogans, but Men’s Wearhouse is looking to change its buttoned-up reputation in favor of a fresh, hip face-lift, starting with a collaboration with Esquire magazine.
The Ultimate Shirt and Tie Collection features 10 shirts and 38 ties in a selection of cuts, patterns, and colors handpicked by the magazine’s editors. The looks are, well, what you’d expect from said collaboration—nothing too trendy or shocking, but relatively modern and with an affordable price point.
Our favorite feature: Each shirt comes with collar stays printed with one of Esquire‘s “rules for men,” including statements like, “It is always unacceptable to refuse a woman’s request to dance.”
Amsterdam-based Suitsupply opened its tenth U.S. location on Fifth Ave over the weekend. The men’s store focuses on providing modern, well-made suits and apparel with Euro edge not found at Men’s Warehouse. The fit is first here, with an in-store alterations bar and tailors on hand for total customizations.
The brand itself reads more puffed-up boys’ club than well-dressed gentlemen. Google image search the company’s name for its NSFW ad campaign. Or don’t. Just imagine an X-rated Mad Men episode.
Suits come in three lines (Blue, Purple, and Suit Up) that differ based on materials and finishes and range from $399 to $999. Tailoring is additional but can be finished while you wait or in under three days for more extensive alterations.
