NAMES Gary Ireland and Gilbert Archuleta LIVE IN West Seattle OCCUPATIONS Gary is a public information officer at the City of Seattle; Gilbert manages reporting and analysis with Puget Sound Energy HOW THEY KNEW MARRIAGE WAS FOR THEM They were together for 15 years before it was an option in Washington, so once it was possible it was a no-brainer WEDDING-DAY WEATHER Cold and clear, with fresh snow in the morning WEDDING TIME 6 NUMBER OF GUESTS 60 SPENT/SPLURGED They went over budget for a photographer they really loved, but saved with a weekday wedding during the offseason THEIR APPROACH TO WEDDING PLANNING They used a “fly by the seat of your pants” approach, coupled with a divide-and-conquer strategy, and planned the whole thing in four months—with the help of event designers, who articulated their vision and made the day-of logistics a breeze WEDDING THEME The simple elegance of Paris THEME INSPIRATION Their love of travel THEIR SPIN ON A MIDWEEK WEDDING Knowing guests would be scrambling to get there on time, they surprised them with a pre-ceremony happy hour with appetizers HOW THEY MADE THE CEREMONY THEIR OWN They walked down the aisle together to John Legend’s “All of Me” and stood in front of the venue’s fireplace with guests in a semicircle around them RECEPTION MENU Plated, seated dinner with maple-brined pork tenderloin, ricotta-stuffed and pistachio-crusted chicken breast, or butternut squash ravioli WEDDING CAKE Pink-champagne cake with raspberry filling and lemon buttercream frosting, and lemon cake with apricot filling and vanilla buttercream THE DAY IN THREE WORDS Heartwarming, memorable, celebratory HONEYMOON A series of adventures in Arizona, California, Nevada, and the Hawaiian Islands

We mixed classic black and white elements with glittering gold plates, soft table accents, and the amber glow of candlelight. It was modern and elegant, yet warm and inviting.
