Tabletop: Life Aquatic

We asked three event consultants to create inventive, inviting reception scenes

You don’t have to be on the waterfront to host a nautical celebration. Salt water is in the air around here—literally. For a romantic beach vibe drenched in the softest waves of color, Aleah and Nick Valley, the husband-and-wife team behind Valley and Co Events, strung oyster shells from the rafters, painted watercolors on paper goods, and hoisted one very grand shell into the centerpiece spot. Guests at this reception would be welcomed with painterly blooms, the ocean’s best bites (in amuse-bouche form), and culinary sea salts as their take-home message in a bottle.

“Layers are lovely. For place settings with a festive base, start with metallic chargers—think of them as frames for the other dishes—and layer plates in your color palette from there.” —The Valleys Valley and Co Events, 206-250-2055, valleyandco.com
